Ottawa's Time Gun

The noon day gun was originally cast in Wales and was used in the Crimean War.

The nine-pound muzzle ship's cannon weighs 1818 kilograms and was purchased in 1869 by the Postmaster-General for Canada on the authority of the Prime Minister Sir John Macdonald.

April 26th 1869 saw the first firing, to coordinate government clocks, The signal arrived from the Observatory at McGill University.
